Introduction
Develop, implement and monitor the strategy for the Debt Capital Market Division and ensure this is in line with the Group Strategy. To create opportunities for Debt Capital within the client base as well as acquire new clients. Ongoing research in debt market conditions, client-specific issues such as legal, regulatory or accounting issues, and in the formulation of detailed recommendations to the Client’s executive management and stakeholders. Preparation of presentation materials for prospective clients as well as the execution of advisory mandates.
Responsibilities

The role would include all subsets of fixed interest and listed debt issues, i.e. loans / funding, structured and specialised finance. Looking for someone with international experience (mainly in Africa) - someone who can do business development, from originating trades to executing trades. Experience in DFI Funding and Equity buy outs preferred.

Develop and propose client solutions
• Undertake rigorous financial analyses of client’s financial status
• Use all appropriate information-gathering sources (e.g. The Internet) to obtain substantive client information
• Ensure all required and appropriate client legal checks are carried out
• Collate and present financial and legal analyses
• Determine an appropriate value proposition
• Deal with all internal challenges on client suitability
• Respond to tenders and canvass new clients
• Present new value add propositions to clients
• Review existing client mandates and identify opportunities to increase business
• Ensure on-going liaison with clients and nurture relationships
• Negotiate proposal implementation terms and conditions
Implement and execute advisory mandates
• Ensure all mandate letters are appropriately delivered to clients
• Closely manage teams delivering on client mandates
• Carefully manage scope mandate, fees and overall project
• Take full responsibility for deliverables, including:
o Drafting funding strategies
o Financial analysis
o Developing financial strategies
o Managing all relevant information
o Meet with clients to accurately identify all delivery gaps
o Ensuring quality deliverables
• Identify and include other experts where input is needed
• Ensure partners review changes
• Manage the mandate team
• Negotiate all service delivery agreements
• Identify appropriate outsourcing
• Evaluate/analyse debt instruments to propose best structure
• Report on approval implement solutions
• Ensure all funding plans have recommendations
• Go to institutions on road shows for clients
• Answer general credit queries
• Negotiate terms
Build and sustain excellent relationships with financial institutions and clients
• Explore new business opportunities
• Create strategies and tactics to build, develop and improve client relationships
• Maintain frequent dialogue with client at appropriate level
• Build trust with client
• Follow up on invoices
Requirements
• Post Grad BCom (Maths, Economics, Finance etc)
• CA / CFA
• General investment banking covering both Debt Capital markets and Equities.
• Five to eight years in a financial institution or corporate treasury environment working with debt instruments
• A good understanding of debt capital markets in South Africa;
• Knowledge of PFMA/MFMA;
• Listing, Structured Finance, Project Finance, Specialised Finance experience
• Must have 5- 8 experience in raising debt:
o Listed debt
o Fixed rate
o Floating CPI
o Bi-lateral Loans
o Development Fund Institutional Funding
o Bank facilities
o Structured loans
o Export Credit Agreements
o Assisting with formal credit ratings for institutions
o Setting up of commercial paper programs
o Bond market issuance programs
